Tillandsias are epiphytic, tree-dwelling plants, meaning that in their natural habitat they do not grow in soil, but instead attach themselves to tree branches or rocks. They absorb nutrients and moisture not through their roots, but via specialized scale-like hairs (trichomes) that cover the entire surface of their leaves, allowing them to take in water and nutrients directly from the air. As a result, Tillandsias do not require traditional potting media and adapt exceptionally well to indoor microclimates.

Most Tillandsia species originating from the mountainous forests of Central and South America are light-loving and humidity-loving. They thrive best in bright spaces with good air circulation and higher humidity levels. Bathrooms, kitchens, or living rooms filled with plants provide ideal conditions for them, making Tillandsias a perfect choice for anyone looking for a distinctive plant for a humid home environment.

Caring for Tillandsias is simple: with regular misting, appropriate light conditions, and good ventilation, they remain healthy and decorative over the long term. Thanks to their diverse forms, they work beautifully as standalone decorative elements, in arrangements, or in florarium-style compositions.
